Oil & Fluids
The frequency at which you should change your car’s fluids depends on the type of fluid and the make and model of your car:
ENGINE OIL
Most cars need an oil change every 3,000–7,500 miles, but new vehicles may need it every 6,000 miles. If your car uses full-synthetic oil, you may be able to go up to 15,000 miles between oil changes. You can check if your oil needs changing by pulling out the dipstick and checking the colour of the oil. Fresh oil is amber and translucent, while old oil is darker and sludgy.
TRANSMISSION FLUID
For automatic transmissions, you should change the fluid every 60,000–100,000 miles, and for manual transmissions, you should change it every 30,000–60,000 miles. You can check the fluid level by removing the cap or dipstick, wiping it clean, and reinserting it. The fluid level should be between the upper and lower markings.
RADIATOR COOLANT
You should change the coolant every 30,000 miles or two years.
BRAKE FLUID
You should change the brake fluid every 30,000 miles or two years.
SYSTEM FLUSH
You should perform a system flush every 30,000–50,000 miles.
