Windscreen Wipers

Windscreen Wipers

You should replace your car’s windscreen wipers every 6 to12 months, but you might need to replace them sooner depending on your driving conditions. The frequency of use and exposure to the elements are the biggest factors that determine how long they last. Good wipers should clear the windshield in one pass without leaving streaks.

STREAKING

Large, noticeable streaks on your windscreen are a sign that your wiper blades need replacing. This can be caused by damaged or bent rubber on the blades.

SMEARING

If your wipers are smearing water across your windscreen instead of pushing it away, your blades might need replacing. This can be caused by a less sharp edge on the blade.

SKIPPING OR MAKING UNUSUAL SOUNDS

Wiper blades should be quiet or make minimal noise. Squeaking, screeching or scraping could indicate that they need replacing.

MOVING IRREGULARLY

Good wipers move smoothly across the windshield. If they judder, it might be time to replace them.

FILM ON THE WINDSHIELD

If you notice a consistent film of grime on your windshield, even after cleaning it, your wipers might need replacing.

RAGGED OR DISTORTED BLADE

Check the condition of the rubber by lifting the wiper arms away from the windshield. If the rubber is cracked, split, or broken off, it’s time for new wipers.
